Challenges: The original kitchen featured a cramped galley layout, interrupted by a poorly planned furnace and laundry area, which significantly disrupted the flow.
When our client, a passionate cook and avid host, purchased her 1901 craftsman-style home, she loved its historic charm but recognized the need for a thoughtful transformation. The kitchen and bathroom required updates to align with her mid-century modern aesthetic and support her lifestyle. She approached us seeking a clear vision to blend timeless character and modern functionality.
Before beginning our design phase, we explored options for relocating the furnace, confident the change would transform the space. While initially thought to be cost-prohibitive, the investment proved far more affordable than expected. This decision doubled the kitchen's size, seamlessly integrating the furnace into custom cabinetry while significantly improving flow, functionality, and storage.
The redesigned kitchen serves as the heart of the home, featuring custom sage green cabinetry, brass hardware, and a concealed vent hood framed by windows that showcase serene backyard views. Open shelving and an appliance tower provide practical storage, while pristine quartz countertops and white island deliver a clean, modern aesthetic. This warm, elegant space is now perfect for cooking, entertaining, and enjoying daily life.
In the bathroom, we created a serene, spa-inspired retreat that balances luxury and functionality. Earthy green hexagon tile flooring grounds the space, complemented by brass fixtures and wood accents that connect the design to nature. The luxurious wet room features a freestanding tub, an expanded shower, and heated floors, offering comfort and indulgence. Finally, we reworked the layout to include a niche for a stackable washer and dryer, maximizing efficiency and utility without compromising style.
Today, this thoughtfully renovated home not only reflects her personal style but also elevates her daily life. She enjoys peaceful walks to the nearby marina, returning to a space that supports her routines, inspires relaxation, and provides the perfect setting for hosting friends and family. This is a home designed for living well-inside and out.
