WEST COAST TRANSITIONAL
West Coast Comfort for Everyday Living | Edmonds, WA
Project Scope:
- Main floor renovation
- Home furnishings
Timeline: Design 4-5 months; Construction 6 months; Furnishings 4-6 months
Investment: $450,000 - $500,000
Challenges: The home's traditional closed floor plan created barriers to family connection, while a sunken living room presented safety concerns.
For this family home in Edmonds, a complete main-floor renovation transformed the space into a sophisticated yet inviting retreat, perfectly designed to elevate daily life. With their young children now in school, this real estate professional and math teacher envisioned a timeless home that reflects their achievements, supports their active lifestyle, and serves as the ideal setting for both everyday moments and social gatherings.
We began by leveling the sunken living room and removing a wall between the kitchen and family room, creating seamless flow throughout the main living areas. These updates foster stronger family connections by making it easier to gather and engage. A built-in dining nook now provides a cozy, multifunctional space for shared meals, homework sessions, or moments of relaxation.
A timeless neutral palette, northwest coastal influences, and high-quality materials combine beauty and functionality throughout the home.
In the kitchen, handmade zellige tile, a concealed vent hood, custom cabinetry, and a Sub-Zero refrigerator blend artisanal charm with modern practicality. Elegant quartz countertops and a spacious Wolf range enhance the kitchen's functionality, making it perfect for cooking and hosting.
The living and family rooms feature reimagined fireplaces-one framed in soapstone and the other in cast stone-that add warmth and sophistication to these communal spaces. Solid white oak flooring flows throughout the interiors, paired with luxurious, durable fabrics that stand up to family life while still maintaining a refined aesthetic.
This thoughtfully designed home earned the Rising Star Award in the 2024 Northwest Design Awards, a testament to its seamless blend of comfort, functionality, and elevated style. It fosters togetherness, simplifies routines, and creates the perfect setting for everything from peaceful mornings to lively gatherings-ensuring years of connection, joy, and special memories.
