For a recently retired couple transitioning from their family home to a waterfront dream house in Anacortes, this 4,000-square-foot modern rustic retreat underwent a full interior renovation. The design blends natural materials and earthy tones to honor the home's Pacific Northwest architectural style while creating spaces that reflect the owners' love of travel, entertaining, and sailing.
We reworked the floor plan to maximize functionality, introducing a walk-in pantry and mudroom with custom built-ins by reclaiming underutilized spaces. The kitchen was completely reimagined with a custom vent hood mirroring the great room's trapezoidal fireplace, walnut cabinetry, quartzite countertops, and high-end Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances-creating the perfect space for hosting dinner parties and gatherings.
The great room features custom furnishings including a reclaimed ash live-edge dining table, while spans of windows frame expansive water and mountain views. Downstairs, the basement was transformed into an entertainer's dream with a media lounge, wet bar, and game table.
Personal touches include "Inca niches" in the stairwell, inspired by the clients' travels to Peru and lit to showcase treasures from their adventures-adding a deeply personal element to this thoughtfully crafted sanctuary that balances functionality, comfort, and timeless beauty.
